"Then Jesus called His disciples
to Him and said, I have pity and sympathy and am deeply moved for the crowd, because they
have been with Me now three days and they have nothing [at all left] to eat; and I am not
willing to send them away hungry, lest they faint or become exhausted on the way . . .He
took the seven loaves and the fish, and when He had given thanks, He broke them and gave
them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. And they all ate and
were satisfied. And they gathered up seven large provision baskets full of the broken
pieces that were left over. Those who ate were 4,000 men, not including the women and the
children."
Mathew 15:32-38 (AMP)
Here are Some of The FACTS on HUNGER:
- Hunger and malnutrition is a growing problem in America and in Panama City.
- There is no shortageof food, yet people still go hungry each day.
- $31 billion worth of food ends up in landfills each year in our country.
- This food could have fed 49 million people.
- Panama City Rescue Mission feeds at least 300 meals per day, more than 80,000 meals per
year.
- Individuals, churches, businesses and restaurants can donate the excess food at the end
of a dinner, special event, or regular dinner rush.
- Some restaurants do not donate in fear they may become liable if someone gets sick.
Fortunately, the Government has stepped in to
protect people who, in good faith, rescue, donate and distribute excess food to the needy.
The Government passed a law in 1990 that protects donors when they give in good faith to
charitable organizations to end hunger. The Good Samaritan Act limits the liability of
donors to gross negligence. This means you are only liable if you intentionally distribute
unhealthy food. So, if you are acting in good faith, you are protected.
