86 coats donated

IMG_5012PANAMA CITY — After more than 700 children were clothed at Klothes for Kids annual back-to-school uniforms and school supplies drive, the Panama City Rescue Mission has donated coats to a similar cause.

PCRM representatives delivered 86 coats to Manuel & Thompson law offices, 314 Magnolia Ave., the morning of Sept. 18. The coats added to the hundreds of other coats the law office has collected for its annual Coats for Kids coat drive, which aims to provide free, new to gently used coats for distribution to adults and children in need of them for the upcoming fall and winter seasons.

The personal injury law office is urging everyone to give as many coats as possible, particularly children coats sizes six through 10. The drive ends Oct 16.

“We see the coats here, but what I also see here are the kids’ faces,” said lawyer Zach Taylor.

Last year, the drive brought in 750 coats; however, at the close of the drive, several students were still in need of coats.

“Take a few minutes and go through your closets, make the effort because it could make the difference for that one additional student,” Taylor added. “Every coat counts and will be used.”

The first Coats for Kids coat drive was held in 2002; since then, the community-wide event has supplied local adults and children with more than 6,500 coats and jackets.

“We applaud the efforts of Manual & Thompson on helping to get children ready for fall and winter,” said Amanda Bawn, PCRM Director of Major Gifts. “And we are happy to partner with them again this year for such a great cause.”
