Walmart Check Presentation

Panama City Rescue Mission will receive the Florida Advisory Council State Giving Program Grant from the Walmart Foundation, Monday, June 26, 2017, at 10 a.m., at the Rescue Mission, 609 Allen Avenue, Panama City, FL 32401.

“We believe that [the Rescue Mission] is doing important work within the communities [they] serve,” the Walmart Foundation and Florida Advisory Council said. “We are proud that we are able to support [them] in [their] efforts.”

“This grant will provide nutritious meals to the homeless, healing, and needy of Bay County, Florida,” said Michelle Price, Panama City Rescue Mission Director of Development. “These funds will cover the cost of providing 140,000 desperately needed nutritious meals to people facing hunger throughout the year.”

The major goal and outcome of the Panama City Rescue Mission meal program is to satisfy an individual’s hunger enough that they are amenable to additional assistance in other areas of need. By fulfilling the need for food and nutrition, the Mission helps save our community the added stress of healthcare costs and visits to emergency rooms. In Florida alone, $31,065 per person/per year is spent on indigent care in hospitals and clinics. Much of this could be eliminated if these individuals had access to consistent meals and better nutrition. The incarceration percentage would also be lowered! It is no secret that hunger, homelessness, and crime are integrally related. The Mission’s meal program provides the first step to eliminating homelessness and offering tools that can transform lives, and keep families together!

It’s the Walmart Foundation’s mission to create opportunities so people can live better. They consider it their responsibility to make a positive impact in the communities they serve. One community at a time. Walmart and the Walmart Foundation are always looking at ways to best serve local communities. The Walmart Foundation meets the needs of the under-served by directing charitable giving toward their core areas of focus: Opportunity, Sustainability and Community.
